AlSawari Theater Achievements (1991-2023)
Year 1991
The theater, considered the third theater troupe in Bahrain, was established after the announcement of another theater troupe in 1974.
Year 1992
The theater achieved its first international participation in the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre despite being less than a year old.
Year 1993
- Participating for the second consecutive time in the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre.
- The jury's commendation of the participating performance, which is the first commendation for a Bahraini troupe.
- Establishment of the Youth Festival.
Year 1994
- The jury committee praised the participating performance, marking the first commendation for a Bahraini group.
- Receiving the award for Best International Direction as the second director and the second Arab country.
- Establishment of the Video Festival.
- Play: The Muzzle, Writer: Alfonso Sastre, Director: Abdullah Al-Saadawi, Participated in the 6th Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre and won the Best Director award.
Year 1995
- Establishment of the Youth Festival.
- Participation for the fourth consecutive time in the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre.
- Participation for the first time in the Gulf Theatre Festival.
Year 1996
- Participating for the third consecutive time in the Cairo International Experimental Theater Festival.
- Participation for the fifth consecutive time in the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre.
Year 1998
- Winning the award for Best International Direction as the second director and second Arab country.
- One of the troupe's actors being nominated for the Excellence in Acting award in Egypt.
Year 1999
- Establishment of the Video Festival.
- Participation in the festival with two performances.
- The participating work being nominated for Best Technical Achievement in Egypt.
Year 2001
- Participating for the second time in the Gulf Theater Festival - Qatar.
- Receiving the award for Best Artistic Design for one of the theatre performances in Qatar.
- Receiving the award for Best Acting for one of the theatre performances in Qatar.
- Play: Eva, Writer: Walid Fadel, Director: Khaled Al-Ruwai'i, Performed in May at Sheikh Abdul Aziz High School for Boys, participated in the 8th Gulf Theatre Festival in Qatar, and won Best Actress for Rania Ghazi and Best Scenography for Khaled Al-Ruwai'i.
Year 2002
- The play 'Three Women of Harem' participates in the Arts Festival - Switzerland, as the first Gulf country to showcase there.
- Receiving the award for Best Direction for one of the theatre performances in Bahrain.
- Receiving the award for Best Acting for one of the theatre performances in Bahrain.
- Play: The Catastrophe, Writer: Abdullah Al-Saadawi, Won the Best Director award in the 2002 Distinguished Theatre Performances Competition, Nominated for Best Director and Best Actor at the 13th Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre.
Year 2003
- Participating for the eighth time in the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre.
- The director being nominated for the Excellence in Direction award in Egypt.
- Receiving the award for Best Direction for one of the theatre performances in Bahrain.
- Play: It Took So Long, Writer: Walid Ikhlasi, Director: Ibrahim Khalfan, Won the Excellence Award for Best Director in the 2003 Distinguished Theatre Performances Competition.
- Play: Love with the Taste of Chocolate, Writers: Khaled Al-Ruwai'i and Abdullah Al-Saadawi, Director: Khaled Al-Ruwai'i, Performed at the troupe's headquarters, participated in the Jordanian Theatre Festival, and won the Scenography Award for Khaled Al-Ruwai'i and Mahmoud Al-Saffar in the 2003 Distinguished Theatre Performances Competition.
Year 2004
- Participating in the Amman Theatrical Days Festival - Jordan.
- Receiving the Jury Award for one of the theatre performances in Bahrain.
- Receiving the award for Best Direction for one of the theatre performances in Bahrain.
Year 2005
- Participating in the Amman Theatrical Days Festival - Jordan.
- Winning the award for Best Direction for one of the theater performances - Bahrain.
- Winning the award for Best Acting for one of the theater performances - Bahrain.
Year 2006
- Organizing the celebration of World Theatre Day as part of the Cultural Spring events, and hosting an Arab troupe from Morocco for the first time in Bahrain.
- Receiving the Encouragement Award from the judging committee for one of the shows - Bahrain.
- Nominating the play 'Traveler of the Night' to participate in the Cairo Experimental Festival."
Year 2007
- Organizing the celebration of World Theatre Day.
- Nominating the play 'Human Life' to participate in the Jordanian Theater Festival.
- The theater winning five awards in the Excellence Competition in Bahrain.
- Play: Matryoshka, Writer and Director: Abdullah Al-Saadawi, Performed for World Theatre Day at Al-Bareh Art Hall and other venues, won Best Lead Actor for Hussein Abdul Ali in the 2007 Distinguished Theatre Performances Competition.
- Play: The Life of a Man, Writer: Leonid Andreyev, Director: Hussein Al-Halibi, Performed for World Theatre Day at Sheikh Abdul Aziz High School for Boys, participated in the Jordanian Theatre Festival, and won five awards for Best Performance (shared), Best Director (shared), Best Lead Actress, Best Scenography, and Best Music.
Year 2008
- Nominating
the play 'Suddenly, It Didn't Rain' to participate in the Cairo Experimental
Festival.
- Winning
the award for Best Co-Directing for one of the theater performances - Bahrain.
- Winning
the award for Best Leading Actor - Excellence Competition (Bahrain).
- Winning
the award for Best Leading Actress - Excellence Competition (Bahrain).
Year 2010
- Play: The First Page of the Newspaper, Writer and Director: Abdullah Al-Saadawi, Performed in the courtyard and on the stage of the Cultural Hall, won the Best Theatrical Workshop Effort award in the Distinguished Theatre Performances Competition.
Year 2012
- Play: When Abdullah the Storyteller Became Silent, Writer and Director: Hussein Abdul Ali, Performed in an old house, participated in the 6th Arab Theatre Festival in Sharjah in 2014, and won the second Best Integrated Performance award at the 13th Gulf Theatre Festival for Amateur Troupes in Sharjah in 2014.
Year 2017
- Play: The Key, Writer: Nour Al-Din Al-Hashemi, Director: Ibrahim Khalfan, Won the third prize in the Souq Okaz Theatre Performances Competition in Taif, and participated in the opening of the Sawari International Youth Theatre Festival in 2018.
- Play: The Tumbleweed, Writer: Abdul Amir Al-Shamkhi, Director: Mohammed Shaheen, Participated in the Sharm El-Sheikh International Theatre Festival for Youth and won the Best Actress award.
Year 2019
- Play: Haidar, Writer: Amin Saleh, Director: Mohammed Shaheen, Participated in the 1st Bahrain Theatre Festival and won awards for Best Director (Mohammed Shaheen), Best Playwright (Amin Saleh), Best Second Actress (Jumana Al-Qassab), and Best Music (Hamed Saif).
Year 2023
- Play: An Unnecessary Child, Writer: Abdel Fattah Qalaji, Director: Ibrahim Khalfan, Participated in the 2nd Bahrain Theatre Festival and won awards for Best Scenography (Khaled Al-Ruwai'i) and Best Lead Actress (Reem Wannous).
- Play: The Master and the Servant, Based on a text from Assyrian civilization, Director: Khaled Al-Ruwai'i, Participated in the 2023 Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre and was nominated for Best Actor (Ahmed Saeed).
