Organizational Regulations for AlSawari International Theater Festival for Youth
Preamble:
The AlSawari International Theater Festival for Youth seeks to strengthen young theatrical experiences across the world and facilitate the exchange of creative expertise in this field. It aims to provide a platform for local youth productions to enrich their cultural resources, stimulate dialogue, and mutual learning.
Article 1:
The AlSawari International Theater Festival for Youth is held biennially in the Kingdom of Bahrain as an international theatrical festival featuring local, Arab, and international youth productions based on serious artistic criteria and observations of those performances.
Article 2:
The festival's productions are divided into two sections:
- Participating productions in the festival, including local and international.
- Productions entered into a competition focusing on first-time directing experiences, supported by the "Ibrahim Khalafan Grant for First Theatrical Experiences" fund.
Article 3:
The festival program includes the following:
First: Performances:
Each participating theater group presents a performance representing them.
Second: Lectures and Applied Workshops:
The festival management invites a number of distinguished young artists to give lectures on their personal theater experiences, both theoretically and practically, with visual references and participation in the main seminar.
Third: Training Workshops:
The festival conducts several theater workshops before the festival days, covering various theatrical arts led by outstanding professors and specialized artists in their theatrical fields. Participation is open to everyone from around the world.
Article 4:
The AlSawari Theater is responsible for supervising the festival.
Article 5:
The festival director is elected or appointed by the board of directors, and is responsible for forming the festival's management.
Article 6:
In case the festival director resigns, they will appoint a successor after consultation with the board of directors.
Article 7:
The festival director provides literary and financial reports to the board of directors.
Article 8:
The festival management is responsible for the following:
- Drawing up the festival's policy and developing a plan to provide the necessary resources to achieve its objectives in coordination with the board of directors.
- Monitoring the general plan of the festival with the festival and theater management.
- Drafting a budget for the festival in coordination with the board of directors.
- Outlining the general framework for the organizational committees' work for the festival.
- Developing the theatrical activity program.
- Determining the locations for performances, workshops, and lectures.
Article 9:
The festival management establishes committees under its jurisdiction, chaired by members of the festival's management, each committee providing a detailed report on general developments. These committees include:
- Production Committee.
- Shows and Technical Preparations Committee.
- Public Relations Committee.
- Media, Publishing, and Advertising Committee.
- Communications and Secretariat Committee.
- Shows and Workshops Follow-up Committee.
- Lectures and Seminars Committee.
Article 10:
Participating groups or individuals in the festival must provide the festival management with the following at least three months before the event starts:
- The theatrical script or performance material written in Arabic or English.
- A summary of the theatrical script or performance material in video format if the performance has been previously presented, not exceeding one year old.
- Information file about the group and its activities supported by photos.
- List of actors, technicians, and administrators accompanying the performance.
- Technical requirements as available.
Article 11:
The festival management covers expenses for the accommodation, meals, and transportation for up to 15 people.
Article 12:
The festival management bears the cost of producing theater productions and shows (Ibrahim Khalafan Grant for First Theatrical Experiences).
Article 13:
The festival has the right to record events without commercial exploitation and with the consent of the participating groups or according to new developments in this regard.
Article 14:
Festival awards are granted for:
- Best Integrated Theatrical Production Award.
- Ibrahim Bahar Playwriting Award.
- Best Theatrical Direction Award.
- Best Leading Actor Award.
- Best Leading Actress Award.
- Best Supporting Actor Award.
- Best Supporting Actress Award.
- Best Set Design Award.
- Best Sound and Music Effects Award for the performance.
- Abdullah Al-Sadawi Award (Special Jury Committee).
- Best Integrated Production Award (Ibrahim Khalafan Grant for First Theatrical Experiences).
