Al-Sawari Theater will launch, at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at the Bahrain Cultural Hall in Manama, a book signing event for "Ibrahim Khalfan: In Search of the Mischievous Actor." This celebratory book presents, in the form of extensive dialogue, the artistic journey of the actor Ibrahim Khalfan over more than 40 years.
This book is the result of extensive conversations conducted by the writer Hussam Abu Sabba' with the artist Ibrahim Khalfan, attempting to delve into his artistic experience. The significance of this distinctive publication lies in the symbolic importance of the artist Ibrahim Khalfan, who is considered one of the few individuals who conceived the idea of founding Al-Sawari Theater and who contributed to shaping its artistic identity over the past thirty years.
The book traces the beginning of a strong connection between the artist and the theater, as well as the approach he took in presenting plays since his early days at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, through his experience with club theater, until he established Al-Sawari Theater, transitioning from one style to another, with scattered insights into some of the productions. The dialogue also delves into the challenges of experimental theater terminology in Bahraini theater and the artist's engagement with it in the performance space. A portion of the dialogue is dedicated to discussing Ibrahim Khalfan's experience in managing the University Theater Club at the University of Bahrain, through which he contributed to the development of student theatrical outputs and honed many student talents who later shone brightly. This celebratory release serves as a document preserving some of the artist's opinions and partially documenting a distinguished experience that had a local, Arab, and international presence.
The book is produced by Al-Sawari Theater, edited by the writer Hussam Abu Sabba', and designed and directed by the artist Khalid Al-Ruwaie.
